Before the 1990s, much of the Allies's high tech/ high level bombing efforts went so astray that bombs meant for killing kids in cities actually fell among cows in farmers' open fields instead.
Supposedly we've improved our technology and morality since then, so bombs now tend to fall only on their military targets, aka buildings.
But we still can't really be sure what is inside those military 'targets' .
Sometimes they are indeed filled with bad men with guns ; but sometimes there are only kids with teddies inside.
All dead ------- either way.
(Here reference the recent release of secret documents detailing how Canadian planes recently dropped bombs that ended up killing ISIS kiddies instead of ISIS killers.)
And the Allied military brass, boys more in love with nice clean shiny new uniforms than even their shiny new high tech toys, has always lied about all the kiddies they have killed .
Lied in 1940 Europe right through to 2015 Syria and Iraq and Palestine.
Because admitting high tech "strategic bombing" wars don't really work, morally or militarily, would mean going on to Plan B - getting lots of men with rifles and shiny new uniforms to start crawling in the mud towards their targets.
And the military brass, the air force above all, hardly joined the military to get their clothes muddy and wet.
Or to die.
That's the job of the other daddies' kiddies...
MANHATTAN CRUDE : in an age (and a war) consumed with Purity, the dying Dr Dawson's gift of crowd-sourced 'impure' natural penicillin was not just a global lifesaver. It was also a window into a new way of looking at the world.

Grandparents from BOTH sides of NYC's political spectrum sought to define the futurama world of Janus Manhattan's children
From personal experience (as a small child) I know that the very young sincerely believe that their parents are decisive in shaping their young world.
But when we are all grown up and young parents of our own , we realize how wrong we were.
For in fact, a 25 year old new parent is generally at the very bottom of the adult world's food chain, at work and in society in general.
Youngsters need to look instead at grandparents, their own and others, to see those with all the top jobs and most of the national wealth - the ones who actually set the parameters of our childhoods.
(In truth, growing up in the 1950s and early 1960s, I wasn't even sure that grandparents ran the world - it seemed more to be somebody's great-grandparents !
National leaders in their mid eighties were by no means uncommon - not at all like today's norm when political leaders and company CEOs are all used up and spat out by age fifty.)
1939-1940's Futurama I was a rare formal attempt by some powerful grandfathers (but reflecting the views of the general middle class public) to predict (and thus to hasten) the world of tomorrow, aka the 1960s, that they dearly wanted to see for their grandchildren.
Today we know those grandchildren as 'the postwar generation' or as 'the boomers'.
Even conservative commentators agree that the ungrateful grandchildren of those elite 1940 grandparents basically rejected their proposed brave new world - a high tech world best seen in the 1964-1965 Futurama II - for the seedy charms of Victorian Era Haight-Ashbury.
But is this in fact true ?
Could it not be instead that the 1960s boomers were as divided in their response to the 1964-65 Futurama II as their grandparents were to the 1939-1940 Futurama I ?
Janus Manhattan's Children , the book, will consider whether 1940 New York City was ever as united around the themes of that year's World Fair as is often made out - just as it will consider whether as many Boomers were as counter cultural as it seemed in the late 1960s.
Boomers - aged between 50 and 75 - are the dominant voting bloc in the world because those years of a person's life are when they form by far the most reliable voters, particularly today when only half the population bothers to vote.
So their choices will govern how we all face the existential crisis of the Sixth Extinction.
They are by no means as united as it often assumed - boomers head up both the global warming warning camp and the global warming denying camp for example.
They are divided because people are always divided - and perhaps never more so in 1940, when their grandparents made many of the decisions that still haunt our world.
To save the planet we need to understand the boomers - and to understand them, we need to ignore their parents and try instead to understand their grandparents.
To understand Sixties counterculture, we need to start by looking at who in 1940 New York opposed the values embodied in that year's World's Fair.
Just as to better understand the "scientism can solve any potential problems" of climate denying boomers like Stephen Harper, George W Bush and Tony Abbott, we need to look at the "future's so bright, we gotta wear shades" optimism of their grandparents' generation, best expressed at that same 1940 World's Fair...

even DENIERS can govern well in abundant times , but ...
... when the available per capita resources get small, look to the small to govern best.
Former and soon-to-be-former PMs Howard and Harper are in the news again this week , charged with leading a renewed "war on science" (so called) but I doth protest - again.
These two, and their ilk, love science : Production science.
The science of dig it up, tear it up and burn it up.
The science of greed. Their science is so bright, you gotta wear shades.
The science they do hate is the science of second-guessing, of naysayers, of the cautious and the skeptical.
Impact science.
Canadian-born sociologist Alan Schnailberg's seminal 1980 division of science into these two branches should be the foundational mother's milk of every Green intellectual wannabe - but sadly ( Elizabeth ??!! ) it doesn't .
Impact science denies ( OMG, he used the D-word !) the world's resources are infinite and it denies that the world's capabilities to be a toxic garbage dump are infinite.
The DENIERS merely deny the denial ; deny there are any limits to Man's god-like powers over nature and reality.
They deny the claim that we will never ever be able to replicate our Earth-like experience at a mass-level on any planet but this one.
The DENIERS have had a good run of it - with a planet this rich and the past population of humans so small and so technologically simple, they couldn't miss.
But now we are hitting the wall and their political parties and intellectual leaders are running out of moral authority and intellectual gas.
With three varieties of DENIER parties offering to form your next government, what can any fully-visioned voter do - besides cry in despair ?

The only DEAD newspaper is a FEXLESS newspaper : the Halifax Metro ignores Merkel's Halifax visit !
![]() |
| LAMEST daily ever ? |
But there it was , for all the world to see , the Halifax METRO exposing its inner failings as shamelessly as any ex-porn star seeking air time for their bio-pic.
Chancellor Merkel - de facto leader of the Euro currency group currently undergoing a meltdown of global depression proportions : by any definition, her every doings are eminently a top news subject.
Making probably her only ever visit to your medium sized backwater city.
So, on your front page the next day, a big splash story on Merkel and a nice photograph.
Great ! Well done !
Except : both were pulled off the wire from the Canadian Press agency, ie filed by somebody else.
In your own home town --- your rare chance within the world-wide METRO news organization to see a Halifax story go worldwide - handed over to strangers, on a platter.
Shameful ! Disgusting ! Lazy ! Slack-assed !
I have said it before : 97% of "news" originates when someone wants reportage on an event, for their own purposes, and details the story to all the press.
The only "digging up" usually done consists in finding one or two unique tidbits, to make your story stand out from the rest of your competitors.
Like the Halifax METRO staffers, I too live in Halifax.
I offer up my "blogged" articles about Merkel's education versus Harper's education here, here, here and here.
They, I think, help explain these fellow conservatives wildly varying stances on on climate change : top warmist vs arch denier.
I think they provided a lot more "hard news" on Merkel's freelance visit to a climate change project in Halifax, than whatever this sad-assed sorry excuse of a daily newspaper did.
Here's a real hard news fact : the local alternative newspaper THE COAST generates more words of local reporting in a once a week publication than the Halifax METRO does in a week of daily reporting. How lame is that ?
"The only GOOD newspaper, is a DEAD newspaper...."
Well ,that is not my saying or my belief - but at times like this, I am sorely tempted to subscribe to it .....

When WARMIST Merkel meets SKEPTIC Harper global temp goes up one degree !
| Harper's only LIFESKILL |
Despite being fellow conservatives, the two are better known for their differences than for their similarities.
Harper is the world's best known climate denying leader --- a man willing to slash and burn his way through Canada's scientific community to get his way.
Frankly, because Harper has never held a real job - never held a job that might involve technology, so he simply doesn't get this 'science thing'.
All his jobs have required him to display his considerable skills in ideology and rhetoric.
Just don't expect him to know how to change a tire, a diaper or boil an egg : don't expect him to knowingly engage real life.
Quantum scientist versus a guy who has never held a real job
Merkel knows enough science to know she - and humanity - actually knows very little with any great certainty.
She accepts that current climate science is our best current take on complex climate changes and she is always willing to throw in more money to let the climate scientists get better takes on reality.
As a result, she is number one in credibility among the world's scientists when she speaks up publicly in favour of the reality of climate change, as she does frequently.
Harper thinks we have had all the answers since the days of Newton, Dalton and Darwin and we should have shut off the research money tap on Jan 1 1900.
So when they try and talk in private, sparks fly and heat is given off but neither bends the other's mind.
Too bad that instead of cutting the ice loss over the Arctic, all these talks will do is raise tempers and temperatures and so MELT more arctic ice.....

Merkel "betrays" fellow conservative Harper with visit to Halifax climate change project
![]() |
| Harper ain't Happy ! |
Officially, Merkel is merely visiting Halifax's Dalhousie University to help launch a joint project on climate change between Dalhousie's Marine Research Institute and the German Helmholtz Association --- a job usually left for an official from the German Embassy in Ottawa to perform.
But Merkel has always made it clear that resource-poor and now population-poor Germany can only survive by (a) using its brains - ie science and (b) using those brains on up and coming global issues before others see the future opportunity.
And in practise, that means above all else, being there first on energy shortages and climate change.
By contrast, Harper is a Calgary-based MP and has always ensured his own personal re-election by working tirelessly to see that his governing party is nothing more than mere putty in the hands of Canada's massive Calgary-based Oil industry.
Under his watch, Canada's Conservatives have become the world's first governing "fossil energy lobby group".
He himself is one of the world's biggest and most tireless (tiresome ?) climate deniers but is not content, like most of them, to merely rant against the climate in a blog.
Harper has taken positive steps to kill the climate debate in Canada : conducting extensive witch hunts and mass firings throughout Canada's scientific community.
In fairness, Mr Harper has shown some restraint : he hasn't yet ordered any 'hits' on pesky climate change supporters.
But his trigger finger must really be twitching this week over the fact that Ms Merkel's highly public pro-climate change action is taking place in his own 'hood. De Capo is not pleased !
Harper hates warmist 'traitors' in his family of fellow conservatives.
But fortunately for the German Chancellor, Harper and Canadian Conservatives are also, and not so secretly , 'loving' the way that Merkel has slapped down those dark and swarthy Dagos from Greece and Spain over their financial deficits.
This fact has restrained Harper and his cabinet cronies from publicly launching their normal full-press character assassination on anyone who dares oppose them.
Still the anger must go somewhere -no wonder then that extra amounts of high blood pressure pills had to be delivered to this week's Cabinet meeting, as a medical precaution...

Move over Mengele ; We're Number One , We're Number One !
Hotly-contested Canadian election after election goes by and Canadians lament the results don't even rate a squib in most foreign news media.
Diplomats inform them that Canadians rate below "watching paint dry", even below Belgians and the Swiss, in the most boring things on Earth contest.
But not anymore, and for this, Canadians can lift their voices to the Heavens and in one loud voice proclaim : "Thank you Mr Harper - thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!"
JAMES HANSEN is the best known and most respected scientist on the "human carbon pollution of the atmosphere is causing grievous climate change" brief.
When he decides to pen an opinion piece in the pages of the New York Times, his comments get amplified and repeated in all the nations of the world's major media, bar none.
Oops !
Bar one ---- Canada.
Maybe it's something he said.
Maybe it's because he said that if Canada does proceed on its present course and fully develops its tar sands, it's "game over for the climate", for civilization and for 50% of all species.
Hansen's opinion piece pointed out a fact that is rarely noted (at least in the servile mainstream Canadian media) : all the carbon bound up in the tar sands of Canada is twice the amount of all the carbon pollution we have already added to the atmosphere from all the nations' use of petroleum, throughout all of history.
For years, we've been taught that Dr Joseph Mengele and his Nazi pals were the biggest threat to civilization and the planet.
"Well, you'd sorta expect that kinda of thing from the Prussians now wouldn't you ?" went the sneer.
"I mean - well - the Prussians aren't like Canadians, now are they? Not like that northern blessedly Peaceable Kingdom at all."
No, the Prussians are not: they have stopped their nuclear plants and are devoting much of their highly respected brainpower to solar and wind science.
By contrast - and thanks to Stephen Harper and that nice old couple down your street who put up a Tory sign in the last election - the Canadians are no longer considered 'boring' by their worldly neighbours.
Forget "Apocalypse Now" - its "Apocalypse Eh !" - death by tar mixed with maple syrup.
No, now words like 'evil' and 'mass murder' are what come to mind when other nations' citizens, investors, immigrants and tourists think of Canada.
