"Triumph of the Unfit" : a WWII book whose heroes are women, Jews, blacks, cripples and immigrants

There are plenty of WWII books and sometimes even documentaries about the WWII experiences of minorities and the unfit.

Just not popular ones - not the ones promoted by the Big Six , Five , Four book publishers and the Big Six, Five, Four, Three TV networks with lots of gloss and big bucks for publicity.

The biggest readers of the glossy books and high-budget TV shows about WWII (War porn) are basically the same people who are big viewers of Fox News and big listeners of Talk Radio and big supporters of the Tea Party.

You know who I mean : all those middle aged, middle class, white men who can't get enough of the last period in history (Modernity) when their kind ruled the roost unchallenged.

If any of them chance to fall upon my book about the heroic unfits whose efforts have helped saved their lives, or the lives of someone they know with cheap abundant antibiotics - I sure hope the shock doesn't kill them ....

Social costs of too-expensive anti-bacterials

When the cost of live-saving anti-bacterial medicines (or anti-viral vaccines) are too expensive for a poor person and their family to buy, they die.

The family's grief goes far beyond mere "social cost".

But let us consider how "social cost" of too-expensive medicine against contagious diseases can translate into grief for another family.

Say the family of a Tea Party Republican whose mean-spirited ideology of demanding that "the user pay all" ensured that this life saver remained too costly for the weak and the small.

When people with virulent strains of bacterial or viral diseases aren't promptly and thoroughly treated, they and their families remain reserve pools of that virulent strain that ensures it remains endemic or epidemic.

That means it can be transmitted at some point to the granddaughter of the selfish Tea Party zealot.

If she isn't treated right and treated right promptly (because that disease has been rarely seen by younger doctors in America while remaining endemic in parts of Asia and Africa) , she could die.

When society no longer wants to pay for lighthouses and the crews of container ships die on the rocks, society still have to pay for their loss and the loss of the ship itself and its containers.

Beyond the grief of the dead crews' families, the lack of a social willingness to make a one time payment for a simple automated lighthouse adds up to the permanent higher cost of subsequently imported goods for all.

And permanently higher insurance premiums for all.

Martin "Henry" Dawson's wartime call of "penicillin for ALL humanity" might have seemed fiscally extravagant to Allied conservatives at the time, but it actually wasn't.

The fact that the self-fixated Tea Party is here alive and mouthy and not rotting in a grave from Rheumatic Fever is proof of that.

It would be totally, totally un-Christian of me to add "unfortunately" ...

TEA PARTY + RED BUTTON = BOOM ! amber alert on FULL MOON Republicans

FULL MOON = Armegeddon !
After Nov 6,  Paulie-Ayn Rand, VP choice of the FULL MOON REPUBLICANS , will be only one heartbeat away from having his finger on that all-important RED BUTTON, and that is giving a lot of life-long moderate Republicans serious pause.

Enough for many to start thinking of re-registering themselves as Independents and to start thinking of sitting out this Fall's Presidential election.

LUNAR forces take over GOP

Their Grand Old Party, once the home of Lincoln and Taft, seems to have been taken over by a lot of trailer-trashing ,Tea Party boozing,  lunar-based conspiracy freaks.

Lubbock fermenting civil war ; Missouri legitimizing rape --- what on Earth ( or on the Moon ?) has happened to their GOP .........

Tampa fears FULL MOON Republicans more than hurricane

Akins' FULL MOON Republicanism
Forget the hurricane threatening to wreck the GOP convention in Tampa ---- worry more ,America, about whether there will be a FULL MOON up in the sky whenever the Tea Party (hello Todd Akins!) wing takes over the microphone.

"Vipers inside our Nest" is how many long time Republican members are feeling about the Tea Party's takeover of the grand old party, because they put their own personal hubris and self interest against the hubris and self interest of the entire party.

The Tea Party cum Full Mooners hope the GOP's Tampa platform will formalize the distinction between "Legitimate Rapes" and "Illegitimate Rapes".

(Apparently, the feeling is that legitimate rapes are those performed against white or colored women by white, protestant , native born Americans while illegitimate rapes are all those performed by darkies and foreigners against white women.)

Todd Akins is typical of the new sort of FULL MOON Republican - one never quite knows what his synapses and neurons will lead his tongue muscles to say when the moon is full and shines across his optical nerve.

Australian PM Julia Gillard has taken to calling the conspiracy-prone right "The Lunar Right" and while I prefer "Full Mooners", we are sort of united in agreeing that conspiracy theories and being conservative-minded seem to go together.

Sort of, because I hold that all of today's conservatives are united only in defending yesterday's Modernity ----- which intellectually almost forces its adherents to blame every change and catastrophe on humans,  not Nature.

Conspiracy-prone ? Don't blame Moon , blame Modernity.

And since under the tenets of Modernity, Nature can't change, when millions of decent people sincerely believe that it is changing, the only possible explanation is that they have been
deluded by secretive evil conspirators.

When the rational part of your brain sets you up to expect conspiracies under every bed and inside every watermelon, it only takes the brief flicker of faint moonlight to set the psychic  storm in motion : Tampa be afraid, very afraid....

Off camera, TEA PARTY actually drinks 1% kool aid - its own ....

The Tea Party is not conservative, cautious, skeptical, frugal : they are in fact very utopian, libertarian, optimistic, ideologues ---- when you examine their total universe of beliefs.
Ask them about space travel and you'll find the perpetual teenage boy fantasies of tossing Earth 1.0 off like a used condom and sailing off to Earth 2.0 on Planet Mars, leaving the rest of us, the 99%, to our fates.

Personally, I just can't wait for the Tea Party 1% Elite to finally leave us for good .....

SVE is a proud member of the "99% NEWS MEDIA NETWORK"

It is well known that The One Percent (the 1%) control our biggest media (through private ownership or by controlling public corporations) and those media, in the crunch, only give you the One Percent's spin on the news of the day.
Or, more often, those big media don't publish (or greatly downplay) the news that the One Percent don't want you to hear.
The One Percent are those people whose combined family income is about $400,000 a year or more.

But not all is lost, for today there are alternative sources for news and reasoned opinion : the Blogosphere , home to the news media run by the remaining 99% of humanity.
People like me : my combined family income is about $20,000 annually, about 1/20th of what the wealthiest 1% enjoy.
But the 1%'s blogs are no prettier, no more professional looking, no better read, than my own.
Big Media run from the biggest metropolitan centres in the biggest countries in the world dominate the world of News and Opinion.
As a result they fill us with the sort of information that big city elites (One Percenter people like Jessie Helms,Richard Viguerie,Tom Ellis, James Lucier and John Carbaugh) want us to believe about Climate Change and Public Medicine, for example.
Jessie Helms' One Percent Tea Party elite control the big city media - it is time for us little people, living in the smaller cities and towns, to take some space back....
